Pure IVF – NHS excellence at an affordable price
Quality, transparency, affordability
PURE costs £2,950 and is an all-inclusive fixed price package, for which most private clinics charge in excess of £6,000.
We are able to offer this because we are an NHS clinic dedicated to delivering the best possible results for all of our patients at a sensible price, rather than generating big profits.
In short, our priority is to help you to conceive and provide a high quality, transparent and affordable service. Unlike private clinics, the money you pay goes straight back into the NHS.
PURE is overseen by experienced consultants and delivered by fertility nurse specialists. It includes IVF, drugs up to pregnancy testing, sedation, scans, the compulsory Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) licence fee and counselling.
PURE is likely to be suitable for you if:
- You have regular periods - but not including PCOS
- Your body mass index (BMI) is between 18 and 30
- Your anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) result is between 10-20 pmol/L
- You are under 38 years old
- Your partner has a low (but not very low) sperm count
- You have unexplained infertility
Our success rates
Our IVF experience dates back to 1994 and our success rates exceed the national averages for women under 38.
The following chart speaks for itself:
Before we start
You will need an initial assessment consultation with a fertility nurse specialist who will review your case history and ensure that PURE is right for you before you commit to treatment. If you have any medical problems, this may exclude you from Pure IVF and a doctor will review your notes on a case by case basis. However, moderate to severe endometriosis does exclude you from Pure IVF.
The test results that our team need are an AMH test to determine egg reserve and diagnostic bloods (LH, FSH, TSH, FBC and Vitamin D) £110, a Pre-treatment Scan £95, a semen analysis test £130. Or you can contact your GP to see if they are able to perform some of the tests for you.
If you have had some or all of these tests performed recently, you should email the results to the clinic before your consultation. This will help us to avoid repeat tests and keep costs as low as possible.
How the PURE package works
Once we confirm PURE is right for you, the next step is to obtain and take your IVF medication, which is self-administered on a daily basis. Full training on injections is given. You will need approximately three monitoring ultrasound scans prior to your egg collection.
The egg collection procedure takes approximately 30 minutes, and is performed by a specialist fertility doctor. You will be anaesthetised, but conscious, and are usually ready to go home within two hours.
On the day of egg collection, the eggs are mixed with sperm from your partner or chosen donor in our dedicated IVF laboratory, where we will grow your embryos for up to six days. The embryos grow in special incubators and we return one embryo to you either three or five days later in an embryo transfer procedure.
The embryo transfer will be carried out by a fertility specialist using ultrasound guidance. EmbryoGlue® is a specific and clinically-proven liquid designed for the transfer of embryos during IVF treatment and is used for all of our patients at no extra cost.
After embryo transfer
You will be given a personalised information sheet advising you on the next steps together with contact information. You will be given a private prescription to purchase medication to assist early pregnancy and should carry out a urine pregnancy test 16 days after egg collection.
If the pregnancy test is positive, then you will be booked for an early pregnancy scan at the Rosie Hospital and early pregnancy advice will be given.
Ours is a transparent service. Even at a leading clinic like Cambridge IVF, it often takes more than one embryo transfer to conceive. If your pregnancy test is negative, you will be offered counselling by our dedicated counsellor and an opportunity to have a review appointment with a fertility specialist to discuss your future options.
What if I need or want more than the standard PURE package?
We will only advocate additional procedures which are scientifically proven to make a difference, and which are safe and ethical.
We will ensure all of the options are clearly explained to you and that you are fully aware of the total cost of any additional procedures before you enter into any treatment with us. For example, where male infertility is a factor, we may recommend intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
You may wish to consider using our EmbryoscopeTM. It uses new tools to optimise embryo development and selection of embryos for transfer or freezing. We are the only clinic in the region to have this advanced equipment and for women under 35 we achieved a 56.3% clinical pregnancy rate with patients using EmbryoscopeTM between January and December 2017.
We will never offer you something you don’t need, will not benefit from, or is not safe.
In addition to the PURE package costing £2,950 we offer:
If you have embryos frozen, you will have the option of having a frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycle. At Cambridge IVF we use a technique called ‘vitrification’ to rapidly freeze any good quality embryos that are not needed immediately. During an FET, we can thaw embryos, one at a time, and transfer them back to you. Freezing and thawing of embryos allows us to extend the number of chances you have to become pregnant from one egg collection procedure.
What if PURE is not right for me?
Cambridge University Hospitals has some of the UK’s leading specialists to help patients with more complex needs, such as endocrine conditions, severe endometriosis, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, a low ovarian reserve or a high BMI. If PURE is not right for you we can arrange an appointment with one of our consultants who will advise on the best options for you.
